A first interception of the Bostrichidae Sixnoxylon cuneolus Lesne in China
Abstract:
【Aim】A specimen of an unidentified alive bostrichidae was detected by Jiangmen Customs on Pterocarpus erinaceus logs imported from Gambia. 【Method】The species identification was carried out by observation and measurement of micro-morphological characteristics. 【Result】Identification using morphological characteristics indicated that this insect was Sixnoxylon cuneolus Lesne ( Coleoptera; bostrichidae ). The main difference between Sixnoxylon cuneolus Lesne and the similar species is that the hair on the apical declivity of elytra is sparse and not obvious, but it was erect short hair at the apices; the base of the teeth on the suture side was not rough; there were three pairs of callose marks on the upper edge of the apical declivity. 【Conclusion】So far, there have been no reports of occurrence on mainland China. Sixnoxylon cuneolus Lesne was intercepted for the first time at Jiangmen port. Sixnoxylon cuneolus Lesne generally spreads over long distances with logs, wood products and packaging products. Once Sixnoxylon cuneolus Lesne introduced into China, the agricultural and forestry security of China will be greatly threatened. The quarantine inspection of imported logs, wood products and wooden packaging at ports should be strengthened.
